A parts catalogue is a useful lead, not a repair quote
Flokk’s Giroflex material describes the 64’s coordinated seat-and-back movement. A manufacturer price list dated March 2025 also has a dedicated 64 spare-parts section, including a named mechanism. This is useful evidence that components are treated separately; it does not establish present stock or compatibility with every older chair.[1]
Photograph all identification information in context and show the control layout. Ask the supplier which production and configuration they can identify. Keep any part number they confirm attached to the quote. Do not start with a generic office-chair cylinder because it happens to be cheaper than diagnosis.[2]
For a batch from an office clearance, record each chair. Matching blue upholstery may conceal different mechanisms, replacement arms or years of use. One representative photograph is not a parts inventory for six seats.
Try the adjustments in the order you use them
With an apparently sound chair, set a comfortable seat height, then adjust the back and movement using the correct instructions. Notice whether the position holds during ordinary sitting. Describe a fault in plain terms: slowly sinking, a control that will not engage, unwanted movement or an arm that will not stay at its setting.
| Component | What to record |
|---|---|
| Height and movement controls | Which action fails, labels and the mechanism arrangement. |
| Seat and back | Compressed filling, hard contact, looseness or damaged support. |
| Arms | Adjustment, attachment and clearance under your desk. |
| Base and castors | Cracks, movement and suitability for the intended floor. |
Stop the sitting trial if there is a cracked support, loose seat connection or unstable base. A repairer should assess those faults before use. Pressurised lift work belongs with a competent service provider; this guide is not a removal or modification procedure.
Ask what the upholstery price contains
A new cover can transform the appearance while leaving compressed foam underneath. Ask whether the quotation includes filling, damaged support panels, the back and any worn arm pads. Specify the actual chair rather than requesting the price of upholstering an office chair in general.
Tell the upholsterer what feels wrong: bottoming out, sliding forwards, a hard front edge or insufficient space behind your knees. Those observations help separate filling from adjustment and personal fit. They do not guarantee that upholstery work can change the chair’s underlying shape.
Try the chair at your desk with your feet supported and your arms in a comfortable working position. Check that the armrests do not stop you coming close enough. If the repair changes the height range or cushioning, ask to confirm the resulting fit before treating the quote as the finished answer.
Compare two ready-to-work outcomes
Add the purchase, service, filling, cover and transport to one total. Compare it with an inspected chair you can use immediately. A worn cover on a sound, well-fitting chair is a different opportunity from a tidy chair with an unidentified control fault.
Send to the refurbisher
Please identify this Giroflex 64 from its labels and underside, separate mechanical work from upholstery, and confirm the parts available for this chair. What functions and seat-height range will the completed chair retain?
Choose the older chair when the service plan is clear and you like sitting in it. Its useful life will be measured in ordinary working days, not in how convincingly the new fabric photographs.
