Start where the marble will stand

Flos describes the Castiglioni design through its marble counterweight, curved steel structure and suspended diffuser. That separation between the floor base and the light source is its great domestic trick: you can place light over an area without locating a ceiling fitting there.[1]

Mark the actual base dimensions beside your sofa or table, then trace the reach and height of the identified lamp. Check the doorway, curtain movement, ceiling and the route used when someone stands up. A photograph taken from the flattering side can hide a heavy block occupying the path to the kitchen.

Do not assume the arch can be bent into a smaller room. Establish the intended adjustment range and assembly from the correct documentation. A lamp that only fits after improvised changes is a different project from a complete Arco ready for its next home.

Check the counterweight as a working component

Ask for views of all accessible faces of the marble, including corners and the area where the stem is secured. Veining, a superficial chip and an open or repaired crack are different observations. Photographs cannot confirm the integrity of a stone block or its attachment, so unexplained damage there needs assessment before handling and use.

Look along the stem sections and at their connections. Record dents, distortion, missing fittings and earlier substitutions without trying to straighten or dismantle anything at a viewing. Ask the seller whether the base, stem and shade were acquired together and whether any parts were replaced.

A spare-parts drawing is a starting point

Top-down room plan places a lamp base beside a sofa and its light over a table away from a walking route.
Start with the counterweight’s position, then check the light’s reach and the room’s walking route. The sketch is not an Arco dimension or assembly drawing.

Flos publishes an Arco spare-parts sheet with identified components and a requirement for qualified electrical installation work. Use the relevant drawing to explain what appears absent, then ask Flos or its service channel to confirm compatibility and availability for your older lamp. A current drawing is not proof that a part fits every past edition.[2]

A seller may say that only the shade is missing. Before treating that as a simple order, confirm the shade assembly, connecting parts and any related electrical work needed to finish it. Compare the total with a complete serviced example rather than comparing the frame price alone.

Get a handling quote for this lamp

The carrying hole in the marble is part of the design story, but it is not a substitute for a handling plan. Give the carrier the exact base dimensions and weight from reliable documentation or measurement, access photographs and the relevant instructions. Agree who will prepare, move and reassemble the lamp.[1]

Include stairs, narrow landings and the long components in that conversation. The stone needs support and protection appropriate to its condition; a fragile shade and long stem need their own packing. A carrier’s price for an ordinary floor lamp may not include this work.

After delivery, have the assembled lamp checked as required before use, with the cable route and base placement settled. A new plug or a photograph of an illuminated bulb does not establish that an older electrical assembly is ready for everyday service.

Message to adapt

Please send the identification details, complete parts, marble faces and stem connections, with any repair history. I need a quote for compatible missing parts and electrical work, plus handling from this address to my room. Please specify who will dismantle or assemble it according to the appropriate instructions.

A complete, well-placed Arco can make a room feel remarkably flexible. The good purchase is the lamp standing where it can do that job, with its stone, structure and light all accounted for.
